Finally was able to overcome the Wires-X issues I was having. I noticed in the Wires-X log file the phrase "Canceled call to Analog Node or Analog & Digital Room" when I was trying to connect to the Texas Patriots room. Wheras when I got the busy error was operating the radio in the Wires-X PDN mode which is for digital only rooms. In the Wires-X Portable Digital Node Function Instruction Manual, I saw a blurb where "The Portable Digital Node Mode may be not connected to anything other than a Digital Room or a Digital Node. In order to connect with the analog node station, it is necessary to ue the Portable HRI Mode." Aha! Let me try the Portable HRI Mode setup instead. I didn't know there was more than one way to connect to Wires-X, but apparently there are several ways! Once I setup the radio into Portable HRI Mode, I was able to use the computer (not the radio) to connect to the Texas Patriots room. Live and learn. As far as the mysterious reboot problem I was experiencing, I don't have a good answer for the fix. Maybe it was a loose cable, maybe it was the USB dropping from my windows virtual machine instance. I don't know. If it happens again, I will have to address that, but so far so good today.

Today was a bad weather day for southeast Texas and other parts of the USA. We had lots of power outages around the Baytown and Houston areas combined with a tornado taking out the Baytown repeater. My ham shack got a lot of rain, but not a lot of wind and lightning. Once the storm passed, I decided to see if I could setup my FTM 300 into Wires-X Direct Connection mode. Things seemed to go well at first. I made my way through the Wires-X PC setup and got the radio to go into Wires-X PDN mode with Direct connection. I was unable to connect to the Texas Patriots room due to "busy error". But I was able to connect to a room in Maine that was having a net. I could hear the traffic ok, but then my radio would just reboot. The screen would go blank and then come up with the Yaesu splash screen and my callsign. So something isn't quite right. After talking with some other operators in the Texas Patriots room using my PiStar, I added ferrite chokes to my cable and set the timeout on Wires-X to Unlimited. I still could not connect to the Texas Patriots room on Wires-X. However, I was able to connect to and make a contact on the Kansas City link for America Link. They said my Wires-X traffic sounded great. Then I noticed the windows software flashed and the radio rebooted. So I don't know what is up. Something to work on in the coming days.

I have a Yaesu FTM 300 that I want to use as a Wires-X node. I submitted my registration request to Yaesu, so waiting on that. I ran into some trouble with installing the Wires-X software. When I would run the Install.exe program, I would get the message "install parameter length error." I run Windows 10 inside a virtual machine, so I wondered if that was causing the problem. But after a while, I finally was able to install the software by running the WiresSetup.msi inside the en-US subfolder. Guess I will find out if it really works when I get the wires-x registration info.
